Nagpurians experienced a proud moment on 20th Oct. when two women homemakers turned professional cyclists, Mrs. Gayatri Andhare, 44 years and Mrs. Kavita Mundle, 48 yrs completed “SHIVALIK SIGNATURE†Ultra Cycle Race of 615 km in 27 hrs 35 minutes in team of two category, 25 minutes before cut off time of 28 hrs. at Chandigarh.
Atul Mishra from Jabalpur also trained under the guidance of Dr. Amit Samarth, won the race in solo category by completing it in 25 hrs 45 min. By winning Shivalik Signature and doing it under 26 hours, Atul Mishra has qualified for Race Across America, which is one of the toughest ultra-cycling race in world. Atul Mishra is a businessman by profession.
Kavita (47 years) and Gayatri (43 years), who are homemakers, started training with Miles N Milers Endurance Sports Academy for physical fitness, became passionate about cycling and have trained rigorously for the past 2 years. They have transformed themselves from housewife’s to Cyclist and are now participating in ultra-cycling races. They have set a big example for everyone that anyone can become an athlete at any age. It all depends on your hard work and persistence.
Total 51 cyclists participated in this 2nd edition of “SHIVALIK SIGNATURE†one of the India’s qualifier for “Race Across Americaâ€. Mrs. Gayatri Andhare & Mrs. Kavita Mundle have undergone hard training for last 2 years under the able guidance of Dr. Amit Samarth, Director of Miles N Milers and famous endurance cyclist who has completed the “Race Across America†of 5000 Kms and “Trans Syberian Race†9100 Km.
The 615 km “SHIVALIK SIGNATURE† ultra race started from Chandigarh on 19th Oct at 6 am and saw these riders passing through Ropar, Hashiyarpur, Dasuya, Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar and back to Chandigarh crossing more than 100 flyovers, huge hills and also traffic jams!. The race ended on 20th morning.
Vaibhav Andhare famous marathon runner and Sumant Mundle were crew members who supported the cyclists.
