Thousands of passenger daily pass through Nagpur Railway Station but the facilities herein are not enough to fulfill the demands of the passengers. Travellers are left no choice but to spent time at waiting rooms which get packed in no time.
Therefore Bharatiya Yatri Kendra (BYK) has demanded construction of Yatri Niwas adjoining Nagpur Railway Station as it would cater to needs of thousands of passengers who have to spent night on footpath. Â The arrangement at station is falling short of the amenities and hence BYK since last 15-years is demanding Yatri Niwas, stated Basant Shukla, Secretary, BYK.
According to the sources, Railway station has only six dormitory rooms that can cater to just 51 passengers and here to it is mandatory to have confirmed tickets. For passengers having waitlisted ticket there is no facility at Nagpur station which is one of the major junctions of Indian Railways.
BYK has also raised the issue of lack of substantial food stalls at railway station thereby forcing travellers to buy food products from unauthorised vendors who are having free run in trains and on platforms.
A comprehensive catering policy from point of view of Nagpur Railway Station needs to be prepared so that each of the platform can be properly covered. Platform no. 6, 7 and 8 does not have food stalls which leads to severe inconvenience to travellers, Shukla added.
