The malaria and filaria department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has registered 169 cases of dengue in which one case was reported as fatal. The death of a 19 year old boy from Nehru Nagar has raised questions. Due to unseasonal rains in Nagpur city has got a humid weather and many areas have recorded a rise in dengue and other vector borne diseases.
Most of the cases of dengue are seen happening in posh areas. The death in Nehru Nagar has been the first to happen in year 2019, which happened in the first 15 days of October.  In the peak monsoon season, 39 cases were recorded in the month of August and 37 in September but October has been the worst till now, which recorded 169 dengue cases.
Last month NMC had given 165 notices to school, apartments and even hospitals when larvae of Aedes aegypti were found breeding in their premises. These are the same species of mosquitoes which spreads dengue and malaria both.
Last year, the malaria department had collected 4,447 serum samples out of which 565 turned to be positive after going through the ELISA tests.Areas like Nehru nagar, Khamla, VNIT hostels, Wardhaman Nagar, Byramji Town, Nandanvan and laxmi nagar have been stated most affected areas of Dengue.
