The sloppiness in approach really mar the essence of any work especially in works related to the beautification of the city. The replacement of old street lights with LED lights in Nagpur city was launched two years ago which is going to become a smart city soon. However; the failure of the contractor to extend the LED within the stipulated period, and the contract was periodically extended. As per information, the civic administration of the city had instructed the contractors to install LEDs on all roads. And the deadline was extended to September 30 and December 31, 2019. Even after extending the deadline, 31000 LEDs have not been installed till date.
The NMC has taken the decision to replace 1.43 lakh LEDs in place of sodium vapour lamps to minimize the burden of rising electricity bill. And for this they have approached Nagpur Smart City and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited. As per information, the municipal corporation spends 58 crores a year on street light electricity bills. As per the reports, if the lamps are replaced with LEDs the NMC can save the Rs.15 crore a year. Also a total of Rs.38 crore will be saved in terms of maintenance and repair costs.
Despite the fact, the project is yet to finish and clearly point towards the irresponsibility of the management.
