A severe blow for the economically weak sections of the city as the Government Medical College and Hospital has abruptly stopped conducting the different tests in affordable rates at the hospital itself. Another common test for Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is also not conducting in the hospital. As per the information, the hospital authorities cited that scarcity of fund is the reason behind the scenario. The BPL patients are entitled for free test, but when the same tests are done in private hospitals, the cost ranges from Rs.400-Rs. 500.
The list of test which are not done in GMCH include Triple marker test conducted in pregnancy to get information of anygenetic abnormalities in the baby, quad marker test (QMT), Lipase test. Dean of GMCH Dr.Sajal Mitra has stated that he will conduct an enquiry regarding this matter.
