Finally, Devendra Fadnavis has resigned as the chief minister of Maharashtra. The move comes in the wake of the tenure of the incumbent Maharashtra Assembly getting over on November 9. He met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Friday to submit his resignation papers.
After submitting resignation, he addressed a press conference and announced that he has submitted his resignation to the Governor and he has accepted it. He made a scathing attack on Shiv Sena and said that while the elections were fought by the two parties as allies, Sena’s sudden change of stand after the results “came as a shock”.
He further added that Maharashtra gave us a great mandate during Lok Sabh elections and even in assembly we faced the elections as allies. Mahayuti (grand alliance) got a clear mandate. We won more than 160 seats and BJP emerged as the single largest party with 105 seats. Uddhav Thackeray on the day of results made it clear that they have their options open and this was a shock for us.
The results for Maharashtra assembly elections were declared on October 24 but Shiv Sena and BJP failed to arrive at a consensus to form the next government. The BJP has 105 seats while Shiv Sena has 56 seats in the 288-member assembly.
