As per the instructions of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) all the courier companies and freight carriers providing services by road will compulsorily need to register themselves with the local transport office and obtain a certificate.
Deputy RTO (Nagpur City), Atul Adey said “those who will not register themselves with the local RTO will invite legal action under Carriage by Road Actâ€.
Goods carriers, contractors, registered agents, brokers, transport companies, courier services delivering documents/pockets to residences, hoarders of goods, distributors, consignors, will have to apply with city RTO or deputy RTO for registration in order to obtain certificate to continue their business. The RTO will act against those who fail to obtain registration certificate from the local RTO office. The certificate will be issued for a period of 10 years, informed a press release.
Various courier services in the city are being provided by private companies to deliver goods by road to offices and residential areas. This has led to government postal services witnessing poor business.
The city has witnessed increase in number of such companies but the RTO office have no information. Proper registration of vehicles of these companies with local RTO office will enable the transport ministry to keep record and relevant information about these road transporters. This will help the MoRTH in avoiding any difficulty in making strategic decisions related to transportation.
