It has been made mandatory by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for all the vehicles to have a fastag and the electronic toll payment method or any such cash payment means. Starting from December 1, while crossing a toll booth, the cash payment will not be accepted and the owner will be fined for this.
The NHAI had faced many financial issues over the last few years. Many of its cash flow payments and sources were facing difficulties over a period of time because of which most of the NHAI projects were stalled. It is seen that in the fiscal 2014 and 2019 its debt has increased eight times. The debt is calculated to be Rs. 1.8 lakh crore which is compared to the project cost; it becomes 30-35 percent.
According to the reports, the new addition in the technological system will ease the cash flow and have a smooth system in order to minimize the problems that are being faced by the highway authority. It is also expecting that the financial conditions of NHAI would improve if the Fastag technology is implemented.
