After many efforts the civic administration of the city has finally restarted three schools while 63 are still closed. The main reason behind the closure of the Marathi, Hindi and Urdu medium schools is said to be the lack of the students. Other factors like inability of the administration, indifference towards the problems also aggravated the issue.
Many political and social organisations have raised the issue, however it didn’t create effect upon the NMC education department who holds the slogan of ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’.
The pathetic conditions of the school buildings are also pointed towards the lethargic attitude of the administration. There are reports that the closed school buildings have turned into ruins. They do not take responsibility to maintain and keep the buildings in proper manner. This also paved way for the anti-social activities in the premises of the schools which in turn disturbs the atmosphere of the localities. The NMC School which is located in Gaddigodam has been closed for last several years. And now it has become a den for gambling and other anti-social activities. The entire area has turned into a garbage dumping yard. It is really creating headache for the residents and they have also complained it into the civic body but no action has not taken yet.
The NMC schools in Sitanagar (Somalwada), Jagannath, Budhwari and Sant Gulab Baba School at Hansapuri are also facing the same condition. It also reported that a voluntary organisation has been running its social activities in the closed Marathi medium school in Kathikpur. As per information, the civic administration is chalking out different plans to reopen the closed shools and soon make positive news in this matter.
