The sky-rocketing prices of onion have in the complete sense left people of India in tears. In this juncture, district collector Ravindra Thakare of the city has directed to take rigorous action against onion traders if they are hoarding onions in their godowns.
In a review meeting convened by the collector he instructed to inspect 100 warehouses of traders. The untimely rains have created havoc on the onion crops because for keeping and selling onions, they have to be dried first. The collector has ordered to ensure strict action against those traders who have stored more than the permitted quantity of onion which cause increase in onion price.
Food distribution officer AK Sawai, District supply officer Bhaskar Taide, president of Kalamna Market, Prashant Merkar, president of Vidarbha Consumer Panchayat Shamkant Patikar, farmer representative Sandeep Mate, supply inspector Vivek Shirekar and others were present in this meeting.
