With slogan of ‘Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature’, keeping this in our spirits, the Department of Botany, Hislop College kick started its 16th ‘Annual flower show’ on December 7, which will last for two days.
The Flower show was inaugurated by the hands of Sharad Paliwar former President of Garden Club Nagpur.He said that “this flower show is not only an inspiration to us but to all the people of Nagpur as a wide range of rare, seasonal flowers are brought under one roof.â€
Around 14,000 plants were on a display on this flower show. Flower enthusiasts came in masses to witness some rare and seasonal plants. The beautiful interlude transformed the college premises into an ecosystem of a wide range of healthy flowering plants under one roof.
The colourful panorama includes a wide range of petunias, begonias, calendula, marigold and zinnia, besides the very beautiful and exotic chrysanthemums. Vermicompost an integral part of the show is produced in-house through the natural composting followed by fortification.
A unique feature of Flower Show is the involvement of students in cultivation, growth and maintenance of this wide collection. To instil the love of nature and to advocate the go green theme a sit and draw competition ‘Papilion’ is also organized at the college premises. Young artists from various schools participated which added beautiful dimension to the show.
The annual event is an outcome of hard work by the Botany Department and students under the guidance of Dr Jayant Agrawal, Secretary, Hislop Education Society and the leadership of Dr. Prashant Shelke, Officiating Principal, and Hislop College. Dr. Mousumi Bhowal and other faculty members, Parama Majumdar, Dr. Shivani Dongarwar, Dr. Mayank Varun, Deepika Sarda, Nikita Phule and the garden staff were also contributed for the success of the flower show.
