Young Prerak Darvekar triumphed in the SN Shrivastava and Kalavatidevi Shrivastava Memorial Nagpur District Open Selection Chess Tournament at the Dhanwate National College Hall here on Sunday.
On the top board, Prerak defeated Vivaan to take his points tally to seven. Both Prerak and Vivaan secured seven points each but on the basis of better tie-break scores, former was adjudged champion.
There was a five-way fight for the third spot. Krupal Wanjari, Dishank Bajaj, Atharva Bhajne, Dinesh Tirpude and Jay Sawalakhe all scored six and half points each. Better tie-break scores helped Krupal claim the third position. The prizes were distributed by Nisha Shrivastava.
The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Shreyans Kamdar, vice president, NDCA, VK Shrivasatava, Kalyan Barat, secretary, NDCA, SN Parkhi, treasurer, NDCA, Umesh Panbude and Pravin Pantawane.
