It has been reported that the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Nagpur has conducted 72 free hip and joint replacement surgeries in the last one year. And this is said to be one of the highest numbers for joint replacement surgeries in entire Maharashtra for poor and needy patients.
As per information, the 45 cases were covered under the Ayushman or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana whereas CM Relief Fund covered 27 cases. The cases included 63 hip and 9 knee replacements. Usually the surgeries cost around Rs.2 lakhs per in joint in private hospitals. And the low cost surgeries which have conducted in GMCH proved to be a blessing for the poor patients.
As per information, Dean Dr.Sajal Mitra, a renowned joint replacement surgeon has done the major operations. In Indian market the cost of ball (artificial joint) is Rs.25000-Rs.30000 while in International market it is Rs.70000-Rs.90000.Because of the efforts and the highest numbers for joint replacement surgeries, the GMCH Nagpur has got a fellowship in joint surgery from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences.
