It has been reported that the civic administration is all set for the effective implementation of mop up pulse polio drive on January 19. Additional Municipal Commissioner Ram Joshi informed that about 2.76 lakh children below 5-years would be administered the oral drop.
Dr Bhavna Sonkusale, Deputy Director, Health Services, NMC said that in city about 1,309 booths are planned to be set-up so that not a single child is left out of the drive. She further said that they have already undertaken awareness drive, covering about 200 mosques in city and addressed doubts regarding the oral polio drops.
Goverdhan, Co-ordinator, National Pulse Polio Drive-2020 informed that Special teams would be deployed at bus stand, railway station, airport and in additional mobile teams would fan out in city to cover street children, kids accompanying parents to construction sites, brick kilns etc. Post Sunday drive, door-to-door teams would ensure that no child is left out with administering the polio dose. Nearly 7,36,599 families are to be covered from January 21 to 25 for which 1057 teams are constituted and they would be monitored by a supervisor. In addition 93 transit teams are also constituted and this year during night time also the pulse polio drops would be administered particularly to nomadic children. Although not a single case of polio was reported from country, still as a precaution Central Government has decided to continue with mop up drive.
