The Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari directed the MahaMetro to implement Jai Stambh Square traffic improvement scheme .For this purpose, they are planning to partially raze the Station Road flyover next month. However, the shop keepers are in this area in trouble and may create hurdle for it.
In view of this, the civic body had directed the agency to first rehabilitate the shopkeepers and then start the demolition process. As per information, there are 72 shopkeepers have to rehabilitate. And they have constructed temporary shops near the railway station. And when the shop keepers shift to the new shops, they will start demolishing the fly over from one side. And some remaining shop keepers need monetary compensation instead of shops. But the matter is not clear as to who will pay the money, MahaMetro or NMC.
As per source, the MahaMetro has plans to construct a big commercial complex to house the shops. It will be connected to the railway station by a foot over bridge. The agency will also construct a multi-level parking near the complex. City buses will use the ground floor while upper floors will be used for parking four-wheelers and two-wheelers.
The MahaMetro wants a six-lane road in front of the railway station. For this purpose, the defence land is required for the road. It will first construct a four-lane road and when the land becomes available another two lanes will be added. As per information, there are total 165 shops below the fly over. And the shop keepers have two unions. Some shop keepers need shops and some need money instead of shops. And these shop keepers had a meeting with Union minister Gadkari and he agreed to it. And the other sets of shop keepers are not ready to shift to the temporary shops. And they alleged that there are no drainage and water available in the complex. And it will be really problematic for them to function without this. They asked to the civic administration to construct the commercial complex first and then demolish the fly over.
