India is celebrating its 71st Republic Day today (January 26) marking it with grand celebrations in the national capital and all across the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes at the Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial at the India Gate today morning along with the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) and the three service chiefs before proceeding for the Republic Day parade.
The Republic day celebration with all military and cultural honours started at Rajpath in New Delhi today morning. This year, Brazil President Jair Messias Bolsonaro was the Chief Guest for R-Day celebrations.
The parade started from Vijay Chowk and pass through Rajpath, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar (BSZ) Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg and proceed for the Red Fort. The President of India – Ramnath Kovind -will unfurl the national flag. Military might, cultural diversity, social and economic progress were showcased during the 90-minute parade, in which twenty tableaux – 16 from States and Union Territories and six from various ministries moved down the Rajpath.
The Parade ended with gravity-defying vertical Charlie by Sukhoi 30 MKI; in a first, Chinook choppers, all-women bike stunts stun the audience. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the crowds at Rajpath. The day is celebrated honouring the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935).
