Three players including Akash Thakur, Jay Sawalakhe and Suhrud Acharya shared the lead after the sixth round in the Vidarbha Open Rapid and Blitz Fide Rating Chess tournament, organized by the Vidarbha Chess Association, at the Dhanwate National College Hall here on Saturday.
In the sixth round, Akash outwitted R Shivasubramanian on the top board. Jay downed Pravin Hend, while Suhrud got the better of Saurabh Lokhande to maintain their unbeaten run. In all, 266 players are participating in the meet.
Earlier, the two-day tourney was inaugurated by Hemantbhau Kalmegh, executive member of Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati. Mahendra Dhore, principal, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur and Surendra Jichkar, principal, Dhanwate National College, were the guests of honour.
Ramjivan Shriwas, secretary Vidarbha Chess Association, Shriniwas Parkhi, joint secretary, VCA, Umesh Panbude and Devendra Wankhade were present on the occasion.
