The  Maharashtra players who won the medals in recently concluded Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) will get the cash prizes total worth Rs 3,6,25,000 from the State government announced Maharashtra sports and youth welfare minister Sunil Kedar on Monday.
He was speaking during ‘Meet the Press’ programme organised by Nagpur Union of working Journalist at Patrakar (Press Club), Civil Lines. The minister said the gold medal winner will be richer by Rs 1 lakh whereas the silver medal winner will be awarded R 75,000. The bronze medalist will get Rs 50,000.
Maharashtra achieved first place in the game by clinching total 257 medals including 78 gold, 77 silver and 102 bronze.
The minister said as many as 590 players were qualified for the Kehlo india Youth Games and the government provided Rs 83.55 lakh for air travel and preparation camp. He said Maharashtra bagged maximum 46 medals in swimming, 40 in gymnastics, 31 in wrestling, 29 in athletics and 25 in weightlifting.
