It is a known fact that doctors who are working in government hospitals are paid Non Practice Allowance (NPA).In spite of this, many doctors in government services are involved in private practice. Hence to curb the unethical practice, the government increased the non practice allowance and made it mandatory to receive it.
However, many doctors at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (Mayo) are more engaged in private practice than to serving poor patients. The point to be noted here is that everyone is very well aware about it.Yet; no action is taken against such doctors. And it is really affecting the poor patients at Mayo.
Earlier, 25 percent of basic pay was given to doctors as non practice allowance. And in the year 2012, the Directorate General of Medical Education and Research (DMER) had increased the NPA by 10 percent to make it 35 percent by a revised government resolution (GR).Also it was made mandatory take this allowance.
As per information, some doctors are having private hospitals while some are serving in corporate and other private hospitals. And not concentrating on checking specific patients, ignoring the facilities of wards. And the booming business of private hospitals is mainly depending on the services of these doctors.
