The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation(MSRTC) which is already facing financial crunches has got another trouble as they run up against the new system of FASTag.As per information, its Fastag account is empty and therefore it has to pay double the toll tax and ends up in heavy loss.
As per MSRTC official source, the buses which would otherwise pass smoothly with RFID tags, now have to wait 10 minutes at each toll plaza with scanners unable to read tags. And in week-ends this is more severe. And in the remote areas of the Maharashtra, poor connectivity at toll plazas delays the reading of tags. And commuters are facing real difficulty of the delay of ST drivers.Earlier,ST corporation faced shortage of buses .
Now the tolls are creating double burden for the corporation even more in financial crisis. They have to pay double toll tax if they do not opt for Fastag as per the rules.
And as per information, a total of 566 buses have to pay toll tax in the Nagpur division of ST Corporation. And it will cost the department about Rs.2.50 lakh a day. And the toll tax is paid in cash; the expenditure has increased from Rs.2.50 lakh to Rs.5 lakh.
