Shivasubramanian R won the one-day rapid chess tournament of the MIA Centre for Sports & Recreation on Sunday.
In the day-long seven-round meet, top-seeded Shivasubramanian won six games and drew aboard to finish on top of the table collecting 6.5 points. For the top finish, he had a tie with third seed Nilesh Wasnik and on the basis of the Buchholz Tie-Break system, Shivasubramanian emerged victorious 32-29 after both played a draw in their final round contest.
Earlier the tournament where 66 participants were vying for the honours was inaugurated by Devkishan Tapadia president MIACSR. Later, Vinod Chaturvedi secretary MIACSR and Shekar Bendre sports committee in-charge distributed the prizes. Deepak Chavan was the chief arbiter of the tournament and he was assisted by Swati Kumbhalkar.
