Shivbhakt Krida Mandal, Badlapur women and Mahatma Gandhi Krida Mandal Mumbai suburb men trimphed in Mayor’s Cup All-India Kho Kho Tournament organised by Nagpur Municipal Corporation at Chitnis Park, Mahal here on Sunday.
In the women’s final, Shivbhakt Krida Mandal riding on an outstanding performance of Priyanka Bhopi and Kavita Ghanekar defeated RF Naik Vidyalaya Navi Mumbai 8-7 by sparing one minute.
Kavita played for 5.40 minutes and beat three players whereas Kishori Mokashi played for 2.20 minutes. For Naik Vidyalaya, Pournima Sakpal and Mrunali Kamble played well but in vain.
In the men’s final, Mahatma Gandhi Krida Mandal playing aggressively defeated Ichalkaranji’s Jaihind Krida Mandal 19-16 by three points. For Mahatma Gandhi, Nitesh Ruke played for two minutes and also beat five players whereas Harshal Hatankar too played well and beat three players.
For Jaihind Krida Mandal, Majhar Jamdar and Amit Patil played well. Union minister Nitin Gadkari was the chief guest of prize distribution function. The winners got Rs 1 lakh whereas the runners-up walked away with Rs 75,000.
City BJP chief Pravin Datke, NMC sports committee chairman Pramod Chikhale, Mahendrasingh Tyagi, Sudhir Nimbalkar and others were present on the occasion.
