After Mahavitaran petition for increasing electricity tariff Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) conducted hearings on Tuesday. During the day-long hearing consumers expressed their discontentment with the petition filed for electricity tariff hike and urged the withdrawal of it. They stated that MSEDCL had increased the power tariff four times in two years.
As per information, public hearing started at 10 am in the Vanamati auditorium. A total 60 consumers expressed their views during the hearing.However; a total of 220 people had done the registration for this hearing. After 181 online registrations, an additional 39 registrations were conducted before the beginning of public hearing.
After the hearing,MSEDCL managing director Aseem Kumar Gupta said that power tariff will be increased after checking all the aspects and also welcome good suggestions from the public.
As per information, MSEDCL has filed a petition for increase in electricity tariff on 26 November last year before the commission for the period from the financial year 2020-21 to 2024-25.
All India Consumer Panchayat President Adv Smita Deshpande objected to the power the hike and said that in the petition filed by MSEDCL, 60 percent power hike has been proposed in the industrial category. And a true burden on the general public. Member of Vidarbha State Movement Committee, Dr.Srinivas Khandewala said before the Commission that there is no question of hike in tariff structure. He also said that 200 units of electricity should be free. And MLA Prakash Gajbhiye handed over a memorandum to Maharashtra State Electricity Regulatory Commission during public hearing and said that people are affected by the increase.
