Since January 1 to December 2019, the Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has penalized 17,371 people for breaking the civic laws and spreading nuisance in public. It is also estimated that the NDS charges 31 citizens per hour during the working hours from 10am to 5pm.
Alone in the month of January itself NDS had penalised more than 200 citizens who were caught vandalising the walls and other parts of the city. According to NDS data, there has been a rise in civic nuisance such as spitting, garbage in open places, sticking constriction materials on road, littering on footpaths roads and several other cases.
NDS has seen a rise in top five nuisance cases which includes stocking of construction material which has been recorded to be around 5,427 cases. Similarly, 4309 of garbage cases, 3811 cases of encroachment of footpaths, 1990 cases of urinating in open and 3007 cases of spiting.
Laxmi Nagar is recorded to be having the highest number of cases which counts to 6,626. NDS has also collected fine from such areas, where Laxmi Nagar has paid 50.79 lakhs. Similarly, Mangalwari, has seen 5,828 cases, from where the fine collected was 49.92 lakhs, Dharampeth, had cases 4236, & fine 47.98 lakhs, Ashi Nagar, cases 3855, fine 53.17 lakhs, Gandhibagh, cases 3,570, fine 29.16 lakhs, Dhantoli, 3,411 cases and 47.07 lakh of fine, Hanuman Nagar cases 2,877, fine 29.68 lakhs, Satranjipura, Cases 2761, fine 24.78 lakh, Lakadganj, 2,745 cases, 32.44 lakhs fine, Nehru Nagar, cases 2514 cases and 44.07 lakhs.
