The Nagpur city police indeed is taking all the fruitful efforts to check the rising crimes in the city. And technology is complementing them to improve the policing.
In this matter, Commissioner of Police Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay said that CCTV network as part of Smart City project plays an important role in detection of crime.
There are about 3600 CCTV cameras affixed at vital places and they are in addition of 50,000 private cameras that citizens and business persons have installed at their establishments and homes. And now city police are pressing for further deepening CCTV network throughout the city as part of its Operation Third Eye. He has given directions to city police to encourage all the commercial establishments, group housing societies, individuals to install CCTV at their respective places.
The plan is to go for prevention of crime as presence of third eye comes handy in dispatching cops in time to avert major incidents. The Commissioner of Police also instructed every police station to go for installation of at least 10,000 CCTV cameras in their jurisdiction At least one camera by every household and commercial establishment is the target of city police. A three months period is provided for police stations so that every street, major lane, main thoroughfare can be thoroughly monitored through the third eye.Citizens are also expected to cooperate in this task.
