Recently New Era Hospital in the city successfully performed minimum invasive mitral valve transplant through a vein in the groin. As per information, it was also the first made in India mitral valve given to a patient. Earlier these valves were imported from foreign countries.
An open heart surgery to change the mitral valve had been performed on patient Moreshwar Bhave (70). But after eight years,He again began feeling breathless, palpitation and pain. And after checking him, he found that the mitral valve was not functioning properly.
But considering the earlier open heart surgery and age, another such operation would have been risky. The alternative was using another valve termed as Transcatheter mitral valve replacement. After the replacement of valve the heart functioning became normal and gave a new lease of life to the patient.
