The long and restless battle for saving Bharat Van from the brutal construction of 18 metre wide road has finally got a positive outcome as Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has cancelled the request by Maha Metro.
Many environmental NGO’s and citizens who were worried about the climate of city have been continually protesting against the decision taken by the newly government funded big shot constructors of the city. It was noted to be a one of the longest protest that has happened in city’s history.
NMC had announced that they have cancelled the request by Maha Metro during the hearing of PIL filed by Dr Jaydeep Das, Honorary Wildlife Warden of Nagpur District.
According to sources, Maha Metro had already dropped the plan of construction of road. However, Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court had still given notices to NMC to not to pass the construction request and that the green patch of the city should be saved.
Citizens had formed a human chain to protect Bharat Van, stood tall with various slogans protestors of various age group agitated against a not so clever decision to have implemented in the city. From school going students to old environmentalist everyone had their strength equally put forth to save Bharat Van.
Maha Metro even tried to fool city protestors by calling it a construction with lowest damage to the green patch of the city, they even disclosed an idea to shift full grown trees to a safe zone. All of such play could not loosen the energy and dedication the protestors had.
