Recently the civic administration of the city taken a decision to cease 120 out of 346 water tankers in the city which will save Rs.10 crore to Rs.12 crore in a year. The water tankers are provided in the area which did not have tapped water. As per information, the civic body had to spend Rs.28 crore on 346 tankers.
NIT laid many water pipes in many areas of the city which had no tapped water with funds from the government,Amrut Yojana special funds and funds from Nagpur Improvement Trust(NIT).
NIT has laid pipe in,Laxmi Nagar,Dharampeth,Hanuman Nagar,Nehru Nagar,Satranjipura,Lakadganj,Asi Nagar and Mangalwari zones. Last year, water tanks were erected at Hudkeshwar-Narsala areas but with tapped water, about 90 percent of the area has become tanker free.
As per information, when the NIT built water tank at Wanjra is charged, it would decrease water woes of Uppalwadi,Shivnagar,Dhhamadeep Nagar,Diamond Nagar,Hastinapur,Bandhu society,Bhimwada and other areas and reduce the number of water tankers by 60 to 70 percent.
NIT’s water tanks will be completed at Nara and Kalamna and both will be transferred to NMC.And when the Kalamna tank is charged, it would provide water to Rajlaxmi Nagar, Parvati Nagar, Devinagar, Gulshan Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and Kalamna areas. And when the water tank at the Lakadganj zone is completed it will definitely decrease tanker trips and NMC can stop more water tanks.
