Recently In view of safety of environment, the National Green Tribunal put a ban on catfish.Inspite of this ban; this fish is being sold in market and seen in many villages in Gondia district.
As per information, catfish has not only become danger to environment but causing ailments like cancer. The water in which catfish grows, become bad. This fish lives on external oxygen and stays inside soil like frog. This fish also feeds on other fishes and lives. The fishing industry had come into danger completely due to this fish. The catfish was banned due to these reasons.
The fisheries department of Gondia district swung into action and became strict on sale and production of cat- fish. This fish is now regularly seen in markets of district. But there are reports of bringing catfish from some parts near district.
The general people have no informa tion about ban on cat- fish and danger from this fish to them and environment. Due to this, catfish is being produced and people are consuming it. Rohu and Katla fish are friends of farmers. Farmers should grow these fishes more and they are good for health also.
