A move to prevent accidents, the traffic police is taking action against drunken driving daily in order to avert accidents caused by such drivers in the city.
As per information, they have done checking in all the ten circle areas of the city. In each circle area, traffic police teams put barricades at select points from 8.30am to 12.30pm and stop suspect drivers check them.
Due to this, so many drivers have now started to use alternate routes to reach their destinations and avoid the check points. There’s a traffic check point at Zero Mile Square. Vehicles going towards Samvidhan Square from Sitabuldi pass through this point. Many drivers on seeing the police barricades in front, put their vehicle in reverse gear right from the Gowari Shahid Smarak. Some of these drivers get caught by the police personnel hiding near the Metro pillars. Those who manage to evade the police, go back via Sitabuldi or Tekdi Ganpati road. Radisson Blue Square There’s a checking point at Radisson Blu Square on Wardha Road.
Some drivers are taking Chuna Bhatti route from Ajni Square. Many drivers have started going from Shatabdi Square and those going to Besa and Manish Nagar even take inner roads.Assistant commissioner of traffic police, Jayesh Bhandarkar stated that he is running a special campaign to check drunken driving cases.
