The International Women’s Day observed on March 8 to celebrate womanhood. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur is celebrating  it under the name of ‘Swasth Naari, Samarth Samaaj’, (Woman’swellness -Theessence of a strong society), a healthcare camp for women,addressing the under-recognised and often overlooked health concerns.As per information, Departments of Gynaecology and Obstetrics,Orthopaedics and Physiotherapy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology and Psychiatry will provide free screening and medical consultation for specific physical and mental health needs of women.
Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics will focus on issues of menstrual and reproductive health, cervical and breast cancer awareness in addition to providing free PAP smears for women of child-bearing ages, in collaboration with Department of Pathology. Department of Orthopaedics and Physiotherapy will assess for common musculo-skeletal problems in women such as low backache and Osteoporosis, with appointments for free BMD (Bone mineral Density) estimation.
Department of Psychiatry will screen for various mental health ailments, with special emphasis on emotional and psychological issues commonly seen during puberty, menstrual cycle, pregnancy and menopause as well as address the pertinent, yet unrecognised sexual health concerns in women. Haemoglobin and Blood sugar estimation will be provided free of cost for all women by Deptt of Physiology and Biochemistry, andiron, Calcium and Vitamin D3 supplements will be dispensed to all in whom it is indicated. The ‘Swasth Naari, Samarth Samaaj’ health camp will be held on the same day at AIIMS OPD Complex, MIHAN SEZ, from 9 am to 2 pm.
