The National Federation of the Blind Maharashtra, Nagpur (Vidarbha Unit) & All India Chess Federation for the Blind, jointly are organizing the AICFB West Zone Fide Rating Chess Championship for the visually challenged from March 12 to 15 at Bank of India Credit Co-operative Society Hall, RPTS Road, Laxmi Nagar
, Nagpur. National Federation of the Blind which is established in June 1977. is a non-political, membership-based, self-help and democratic Organization, administered and operated by Blind persons only. This is a unique organization working with a principle to bring about a radical change in the traditional presumptions and views about the Blind persons in the mind of the society. National Federation of Blind Maharashtra, Vidarbha, is one of the active units of NFB Maharashtra, working for the welfare and upliftment of the visually impaired in the Vidarbha Region through various welfare-oriented schemes & projects.
Now the Vidarbha unit has come up with a new and innovative idea to organize an AICFB West Zone Fide Rating Chess Championship For the visually challenged 2020. to bring a social change through this game about the blind community amongst the society. This will help to promote the game of chess amongst the blind community and will also help to search the hidden chess talent at the national level which in the long run can be transformed into an outstanding chess player. About 150 blind chess players from 6 States, West Zone of India will be expected to participate in the tournament. The arrangements for boarding and lodging and other mandatory requirements of the participants are being done by the Federation.
District collector Ravindra Thakare will be the chief guest of the inaugural function to be held at 11.30 am. BOI zonal manager will Preside over the Function. Anil Nair (Managing Director Pioneer Group0, Manoj V. Balpande (President, Ambe Durga Education Society, Nagpur) and Avinash Pund (District Sports Officer, Nagpur) will also grace the occasion.
MLC Nagoji Ganar will be the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony to be held on March 15 at 12.30 p.m Shiv Chhatrapati awardee Girish Gadg will preside over the function. Suresh Bobate (General secretary, Bank Of India Staff Union Vidarbha), S. P. Tiwari (General secretary, Bank Of Maharashtra, Employees Association) and K. K. Barat ( secretary, Nagpur District Chess Association ) will also remain present.
