The Nagpur Municipal corporation on Thursday stated that six zones in the city would get water supply for 18 hours per day as against one-and-a-half to two hours per day. As per information, it was an after effect of timely interference of civic chief Tukaram Mundhe, taking serious cognisance of the complaints regarding duration of water supply in these zones. The six zones include Laxmi Nagar, Hanuman Nagar, Satranjipura, Ashi Nagar, Mangalwari, and Nehru Nagar.
The decision of providing 18 hours/day water supply will benefit the residents of Takli Sim, Nalanda Nagar, Shri Nagar, Omkar Nagar, Vanjari Nagar (New), Bastarwadi, Boriyapura, Bezonbagh, Raj Nagar, Sakkardara command areas. The residents of Shri Nagar and Nalanda Nagar were getting water supply for one and-a-half hours per day, and Bastarwadi residents were getting water supply for two hours/day. Now, they will get water supply for 8-10 hours a day.
As per the official source,Water Supply Department also plugged the leakage at Raj Bhavan in Sitabuldi command area. The illegal pipeline in Tekdi Road and Manas Chowk area has been severed, which has saved 2 million litres per day water. The department also severed connections of 1,640 consumers who defaulted on bill payment. As a result of this action against defaulters, 5,179 consumers cleared the water dues of Rs 2.60 crore. The recovery of water charges was 105 percent of target in February 2019. This year, in February 2020,the recovery was 109 per cent of the target. There has been a reduction in number of complaints too. Water Supply Department of NMC had received an average 3,444 complaints per month between April 2019 and January 2020. In February 2020, the figure came down to 3,250. The department has started ‘water audit’, which will be completed by the end of this month. While providing 24×7 water supply, efforts are being made to sever illegal water connections and curbing the leakages.
