Amid the chaotic situation after the outbreak of deadly coronavirus, the state electricity board MSEDCL has brought us good news as the electricity rate in the city has become cheaper by six paise per unit. This has been possible due to the end of the recovery of cess to remove the pillars on the road for the last one year. It is noteworthy that the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has announced new rates from April 1, claiming the reduction in electricity rates. Citizens will start receiving bills as per the new rates in May.
Meanwhile, the recovery being made from the electricity consumers of the city has been stopped. Significantly, this recovery was made in the year, 2001-02 to remove the electric poles on the middle road due to the widened roads under IRDP.
It was decided to close it after the realisation of recovery target of Rs. 10.99 crore. However, even after cutting the pockets of the citizens, this work has not been completed yet. Now the work is stopped due to the lockdown implemented coronavirus to prevent the infection of the dreaded virus.
