A large quantity of liquor that was being brought from Madhya Pradesh to Nagpur was seized in Beltarodi, on Friday. The police authority of Beltarodi seized a liquor lot worth rupees 4.25 lakh which was being smuggled in a truck and an Ertiga MUV.
According to sources, there was another vehicle carrying liquor that fled from the crime scene and only two vehicles were caught.
Due to lockdown the smugglers have got a good hand over the liquor market as all the legal sale of alcohol has been banned and the illegally sold liquor has got a good price. This lockdown has boosted the grey market of alcohol.
According to Vijay Akot, senior police inspector, Beltarodi, he received a tip-off that a large consignment of liquor would be arriving in Nagpur.
He received the details, timing, and date and accordingly he set a trap on the given route. These vehicles were had t be chased by the police authority after which the truck and MUV stopped near Rani Kothi and the drivers hoped into another XUV and fled the scene.
Police found out a small compartment specially made to hide the liquor in both trucks and MUV. The police authority seized the consignment that contained branded liquor.
