Those put in quarantine are given uncooked food at MLA hostel

The citizens are already reeling under pain after the administration quarantined them to prevent the spread of novel corona virus. And now a new issue of unfairness and low quality of food has surfaced from the walls of quarantine facility of MLA hostel.

According to sources the admitted suspects are made to wait the whole day after the morning breakfast for the next shipment of food packages. The lunch which is supposed to be provided at 12 -2 in the afternoon is being delivered at 5 pm. The families and children who have been put under quarantine are isolated from the other sources and options for food. These people are totally dependent on the meals provided by the facility itself. Since last two days, the food packages which are already late have uncooked rice and burnt chapattis in them.

Through sources, TLN investigated that even the plates and bowls which were earlier provided to the people, is now unavailable in the food packages, since Sunday meal. The food packages were delivered till the doorstep of each room but now admitted people have to go to the main entrance of MLA hostel to get their food.

On the basis on anonymity an admitted person told TLN, “ We are living in a very unfriendly atmosphere as when complained about the difficulties faced by us, the staff is totally denying their role in food delivery and are ignorant to the problems faced by everyone in the facility”
The hostel has four floors from where everyone has to come down to get their food packages. Families and admitted people are also scared over this issue as they are unaware of the health reports of other people.

“When we are down in the hall for our food, we might be exposed to a positive case and the worst thing here is we are totally unaware of that particular patient”, said one of the admitted patient.

According to sources the MLA canteen which was earlier providing the food has withdrawn its service due to irregularities of payment. Yesterday, 2 separate caterers were changed in a span of just one day.

MLA canteen was providing food maintaining total hygiene and proper cooked meal. They also provided plates and bowls while in recent days the food is delivered in pouches without any utensils to eat. Patients admitted on the suspicion have to suffer as they have to eat from the pouches itself.
