Dr Chittaranjan Bhave, a 61-year-old surgeon died on Thursday, who is reported to have died due to corona virus. This was the fifth death of a doctor who died treating the patients of COVID-19. Prior to this four more deaths have been noted from Mumbai, Pune and Jalgaon.
Looking at the condition, the Government Medical College, GMC, Nagpur is seen treating its doctors and nurses along with other staff members in an extremely healthy manner. Medical staff which are on duty in the corona ward of GMC have been given a lively treatment taking care of their mental and physical health.
“The doctors and nurses are provided with high protein diet, with proper wards allotted to them to sleep or relax. These staff members and doctors cannot be sent home regularly as they might infect people around them. They are put on fourteen day working period after which they are sent home on a weeks leave†told Avinash Gawande medical superintended, GMC.
While informing TLN more about the treatment, Gawande added, “even while sending them back home we first test their samples and once they are found negative they are set for a leave.â€
In GMC separate biohazard areas have been built for the docking and donning of hazmat suits, meaning two separate areas are made available to put the suit on and take it off. Proper sterilization of doctors and nurses is being done at GMC, with availability of sufficient  PPE kits.
Doctors and nurses have been properly advised on their work and regularly asked for their suggestions and inputs for the development of the health facilities provided to them and the patients. Cabinets are built between the patients and medical staff to have the work done in the safest way.
According to IMA reports, five doctors have died and close to 500 doctors have been admitted or quarantined in Maharashtra state. Although after looking at the rise in fatalities amongst the front line warriors, those who are above the age of 60 or are having co morbid conditions are asked to work from home.
The IMA has urged the government to honor them on the occasion of Independence Day 2020.
