It is believed that the ‘Father’s Day’ was founded by one Sonora Smart Dodd who was the daughter of American Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart in the year 1910. Since then, the day has been celebrated every year in as many as 111 countries. In some countries like Australia and New Zealand, however, it is said that Father’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in September. And in Brazil, it is celebrated on the second Sunday of August.
There are some interesting traditions connected with the celebration of ‘Father’s Day’. As per the pagan tradition, Father’s Day is closely linked to the Pagan Sun worship, because the sun is thought to be the father of the universe and the celebration of dads falls closer to the summer solstice. Roses are the official flower of Father’s Day, with people previously wearing them to church on this date. While this tradition is rarely seen today, sons and daughters used to wear either a red rose in admiration of a living father or a white rose in memory of a deceased father.
On the day, usually, dads are showered with cards and presents, with some families celebrating together by going on days out. It is the day in which kids can express their love and respect towards their father as he has dedicated the entire life to the well-being of their children. Putting this year’s Father’s Day into perspective, people all over will view this one differently than in others in their lifetimes.
If your father is still alive, you will hopefully let them know you love them no matter what. As mentioned, this year it will be quite difficult for the kids to give parties for their beloved father due to the on-going pandemic. You can make delicious food for them and can spend quality time with your father which will redefine the soothing relationship.
