Riyaz Akbar Ali , former ICF Cup Champion and current World No. 2 displayed his splendid performance in Round 3 of the World Online Carrom Challenge – India 2020 on Sunday.
In Round 3 Riyaz scored two white slams and missed an ultimate slam while trying to pocket the last and easy one. Riyaz remained confident, composed and determined in remaining six boards and scored a black slam in board no. 5 and finally scored 2nd white slam in board no. 8 which reduced his net points to 9 (22-13) and took him from rank 6 to rank 3 in the Cumulative point chart with only one
round to go. Top four will qualify for knockout. Rashmi Kumari once again gave the best performance in Round 3 with 31 points and scored a black slam.
Naga Jyoti also played very well in Round 3 with 31 points and kept her hopes alive for reaching in the club of top 4. Current World Champion S. Appoorwa who was not in her top form in Round 1 and Round 2 gave her best performance so far by scoring first white Slam in Women Section and reduced her score to 34. There will be tough fight in Round 4 (last round of league stage) among Aisha Sajid , Roshita Joseph, Naga Jyoti and Appoorwa . Rashmi looks confident to retain her top position in league stage.
It is reminded that top four players in both men and women sections will qualify for the knock out. After Round 4 players ranked at 3 and 4 will give their performance on Monday between 7 pm and 10 pm IST and better performer will qualify for Semi Final 2 where he/she will play with rank 2 player of the league chart. Winner of Semi Final 2 will play with top ranked player of League Total 24 slams 6 white and 18 black in Round 3 and the total slam tally of 65 slams in 3 Rounds. 2 Ultimate Slams, 10 white Slams and 53 Black Slams .
