What we call a shocking incident, it was found that an orphanage run under the name of Samata Orphan Seva Ashram under the jurisdiction of Yashodharanagar police station had neither licence nor orphans in whose name the fraudsters collected money.
As per information, the director of this orphanage does not have any documents under the Juvenile Justice Act. Even there are no children in the orphanage, the fake orphanage appointed agents to collect money illegally from the masses. This scam was exposed by the team of Global International Foundation. Manisha Thakare, one of the team members of the foundation had celebrated Children’s Day with children at the orphanage a few months back. But later when she visited the orphanage, there were no children in the orphanage. She tried to find out where the children in the orphanage had gone. After realizing that the orphanage was fake, Thakare complained with the District Women and Child Welfare Officer.
The orphanage was then investigated by the department. The investigation revealed that the director did not have the necessary documents to run the orphanage. The director used to hold big events in the name of the orphanage. The investigation also found that the director gathered children from the surrounding area for the event. A letter of action was handed over to Yashodharanagar police station as per the inquiry conducted by the department. As per information, the director of the orphanage used to appoint such agents after taking money from them. He used to issue I-cards to these agents, and these agents collect money from people using photographs of orphanage programmes.
