Additional commissioner of police Dr Nilesh Bharne will be the acting as CP in the absence of commissioner of police Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay who has gone on leave. Bharne is a native of Nagpur. After being appointed as an IPS officer, he got Uttarakhand cadre.
Bharne was posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Nagpur on deputation four years ago. Initially he was assigned to a special branch. He then took charge as the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Circle Four. From there he was transferred as Deputy Commissioner of Transport Branch.
Seeing Bhaene’s aggressive working style, Dr. Upadhyay appointed him as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch within two weeks. Six months later, he was promoted to Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch.
A month and a half ago, Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kadam retired from the service. Since then, Dr. Bharne has taken over as the in-charge Joint Commissioner of Police.
Now that the Commissioner of Police Dr. Upadhyay has gone on a four-day leave, he has also been given the responsibility of the city as the in-charge Police Commissioner.
As per the information, there are several vacant posts for senior police officers in Nagpur, therefore, for now a single officer has to handle two or three posts.
