It is really good news as Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL), a joint venture with RITES, has identified eight sites over Central Railway’s Nagpur Division for tapping solar power. As per information, nearly 100 MWp solar power generation through roof top route is identified for which bids were invited about two years back.
In first phase only 13 establishments including some Zones are identified for roof top solar power plants. For Nagpur Division the estimated power generation target is set at 510 KW. In Nagpur city the identified sites are two and they are Parcel Office and DMM store and from there about 110 KW solar power is expected to be generated. At other places over division the locations include at Betul the office of Inspector of Works (IoW ), Deputy Station Superintendent office, and Station Superintendent building where about 100 KW is expected.
Subsequently, at Amla the sites, new Passenger Reservation System (PRS) building and HOB New and SSE Electrical with capacity of 100 KW. The other sites are that at Junnardeo station where cover over platform, itself is going to be covered with solar panels for targeting 100KW of power. Similar plans are also identified at Parasiya station where also cover over platform is to be used for generation of 100KW of solar power. Central Railway in all is given tentative target of 9.51 MWp through solar that would go long way in reducing dependency on State grid for electricity to be used at station arena. About 55 stations are identified in the Zone that includes Pune Division, Bhusawal Division and Bombay Division besides Nagpur Division.
