On Friday afternoon NMC commissioner announced to impose a two days Janta Curfew in Nagpur after a continuous rise in COVID-19 positive cases in the city.
As soon as the news of Janta Curfew was declared it triggered a panic wave among citizens after which they went out of their homes to stock the essential supplies during the two-day curfew. Although it was announced to not panic as essential services shop will remain open but citizens were seen ignoring the rules. The panic buying led to neglect the social distancing rule and markets were flooded with people.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe expressed his concern about the situation and said that the motive of the Janta Curfew was to provide an insight to the behaviour change, very essential to contain the virus. On the contrary, people behaved in an exactly opposite as due to the panic buying, they even have forgotten the motive and ignored the rules. Even after appealing citizens to follow rules and help the authorities citizens were seen violating it every time.
He appealed citizens to follow rules and help the civic authorities in making the city corona free. Mundhe warned citizens and said that if the citizens are seen violating rules and not following the set norms we will be forced to take strict actions against them and will have to apply 15 days Lockdown as well with a strict curfew in the city.
