In view of the increasing cases of COVID-19 in city, civic chief Tukaram Mundhe ruled out public celebration of Ganesh festival this year. He also asked the community organisations to opt for household celebrations by respecting wisdom God so as to avoid transmission of COVID-19 in city.
The organisation needs to work together in best interest of citizens of Nagpur. In a meeting at auditorium of New Administrative Building where in Mundhe outlined that Maharashtra Government has issued guidelines about 10-day Ganesh festival. These guidelines will be implemented in toto at Nagpur city also.
From August 22 the Ganesh festival gets under way and this year citizens would have toveryalertastheshadowofCOVID19 has cast its web over society. At public places social distancing has to be observed totally and hence public festival should be avoided at all costs. Similarly the idols to be installed at homes should be of 2 feet height only and at public places not more than 4 feets and they should be immersed in artificial tanks only. Mundhe said more preferably citizens this year should opt for symbolic festival wherein they could opt for installation of idol made from metal or that of stone. In case citizens still want to have conventional celebration then they can opt for idols made from Shadu soil and immersion be done at respective homes so that crowding is avoided in public places. Similarly public organisations should go for health camps, blood donation camps and stress on awareness about corona, malaria and other viruses that tend to spread fast during rainy season. The public places should be sanitised from time to time and people should been couraged to keep wearing the masks.
