The first time in history, the Nagpur division of Central Railway received the opportunity to run a goods train powered by the 12000 horse power WAG-12 from Amla to Nagpur. A WAG-12 electric engine has also been provided to the Nagpur division. According to the instructions of senior divisional electrical engineer (operations) Mahesh Kumar, loco pilots of Amla and Nagpur headquarters were trained to run this engine for a few days while following the safe distance.
As per information, France and Indian Railways are jointly making 800 state-of –the-art WAG -12 broad gauge electric locomotives at Madhepura,Bihar.The maintenance of 250 such engines will be done in the maintenance shed going to be built in Ajni by February 2022.This engine equipped with GPS system. With this, India has become the sixth country in the world which has prepared the engine of so much horse power.
