A major fire broke out in Ahmedabad’s Shreyas Hospital that was treating COVID patients, in the wee hours on Thursday.
As many as eight COVID patients, including five men and three women, died in the incident.40 other COVID-19 patients have been shifted to AMC run SVP hospital.
According to the police, the fire started around 3:30 am in the ICU department of the Hospital, located in Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad.
Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Many other patients were rescued with the help of the police and hospital managment.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has condoled the loss of lives due to the fire
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said,
“Saddened by the tragic hospital fire in Ahmedabad. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to CM @vijayrupanibjp Ji and Mayor @ibijalpatel Ji regarding the situation. Administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected.”
