The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall for next 4-5 days in Vidarbha region including Nagpur. Most of the places in Vidarbha are receiving good rains from the beginning of this month. Nagpur is the only place in Vidarbha that received rainfall in three digits twice during this monsoon. Whereas, Chandrapur and Yavatmal also received the three digit rains once.
On Saturday, Nagpur received highest 5.2mm rainfall with other places like Amravati (0.2mm), Gadchiroli (1 mm) and Wardha (1 mm) received light rains.
The Met office has predicted normal monsoon this year and till date it is going on the same manner. With lot of dry spells in June, the Nagpur division is yet to cover-up the backlog of rains in August.
Nagpur district is the only place that received normal rainfall so far with 102 per cent. Wardha received 86.8per cent rainfall, Bhandara 87 per cent, Gondia 84.9 per cent, Chandrapur 88.4 per cent and Gadchiroli received very less rain this year and has a big deficit with only 60.2 per cent rains.
Though clouds covered the sky for the whole day, no rains were observed in Akola, Buldhana, Bramhapuri, Chandrapur, Gondia, Washim and Yavatmal on Saturday. Monsoon. Strong southwesterly or westerly monsoon flow prevailing over the Arabian Sea and along and off west coast at lower tropospheric levels are likely to continue for next two days. Under its influence, scattered heavy rains are likely to occur at Central India including Vidarbha in next few days, stated a weather report issued by weather department.
