The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) booked a Naik Police Constable (NPC) attached to Bajaj Nagar police station for demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a man for not registering a case of theft against him. As per information, NPC Prafulla Pawar (35), is attached to DB squad of the police station. The complainant had mortgaged his motorcycle with a money lender against a loan of Rs 12,000.The complainant had paid the amount with interest to the money lender.However,the money lender was not ready to return the motorcycle and demanded more money.
Fed-up with the demand, the complainant took away the motorcycle from the house of the money lender with help of his friends. Soon after, the money lender approached Bajaj Nagar police and lodged a complaint. NPC Pawar called the man at police station and threatened him of registering a case of theft against him.He allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 for not initiating action against him. The victim then approached the ACB and lodged a complaint against NPC Pawar. The ACB officials verified the demand and laid a trap. However, NPC Pawar started refusing to meet the victim as he became suspicious of likely ACB action. A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against NPC Pawar at Bajaj Nagar police station. According to ACB official, mobile phone of NPC Pawar was switched off since Wednesday evening. The action was initiated under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) ACB Rashmi Nandedkar and Additional SP Rajesh Duddhalwar.
