Director Nishikant Kamat died today at 4:24 pm in AIG hospital while he was undergoing treatment in Hyderabad for cirrhosis of liver and suffered a relapse.
AIG hospital in their press release confirmed the news saying that Nishikant Kamat (50 years, Male) was admitted to AIG Hospitals on 31st July 2020 with complains of fever and excessive fatigue. It was diagnosed that he was suffering from Liver Cirrhosis for the past two years. Initially, we started antibiotics and supportive medications upon which Mr. Kamat showed improvement, but his condition soon deteriorated with progressive liver dysfunction and drowsiness. He was immediately shifted to the ICU, where his general condition gradually declined.
Since yesterday, August 16 he developed respiratory failure and hypotension. Despite maximum efforts from Hepatologists, Gastroenterologists, Pulmonologists and Intensivists, his condition deteriorated eventually leading to multiple organ failure.
Today, from afternoon onwards his vital parameters started declining and at 1624 hrs he succumbed to his illness. Our condolences are with his family, friends and fans.
News broke that Nishikant Kamat died earlier today which appeared to be false as Ritesh Deshmukh clarified through his twitter that “Nishikant kamat is on ventilator support. He is still alive & fighting. Let’s pray for himâ€.
Nishikant made his directorial debut with Marathi film, Dombivali Fast, in 2005. The film became one of the biggest hits of the year in Marathi cinema. The film was also critically acclaimed and won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi in 2006.
Nishikant got the reputation when he directed the Hindi remake of Malayalam hit Drishyam, starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu in 2015.
