JCI Nagpur Medico has recently organised “The Mahadanamâ€, a week to celebrate and promote awareness for organ donation from 7th to 13th August as the Team celebrated 13 th August was World Organ donation day. 3 contests were launched prior to organ donation week to encourage the citizens to represent their thoughts on this important subject through this medium. The contests included “ImmunoFit†which invites healthy recipes to keep the immunity strong, “Cosplayâ€- a fancy dress contest for kids to dress up like organs, and “The Penman†Calligraphy contest for slogan
writing. The contests received a welcoming response of 35 entries, the winners of which will be declared online through the Facebook page of JCI Nagpur Medico 2020.
On 7 th August first day of the week, a session on mental health by eminent speaker Vani Kabir was organised in association with Nagpur obstetrics and gynaecological society where President JCI NAGPUR MEDICO Dr.Swati Sarda and President NOGS Dr.Vaidehi Marathe had welcomed the audience.
A Google form, as pledge for organ donation was also released at the hands of Chief Guest National President JCI INDIA JCI Senator Anish Mathew , who encouraged the people to fill the form and pledge to donate their organs, calling it living after you live your life. Guest of honor was Zone President Zone IX JC Valluri Srinivas. Zone Vice President JC Nilesh Lanjewar was also present.
The form received great response, with nearly 80 candidates who signed up for the pledge, and donor cards were provided to them, courtesy Zonal Transplant Cordination Centre(ZTCC). Project Director was JC Dr.Honey Gurbaxani.
A panel discussion with eminent personalities was organised on 9th August which was supported by Maheshwari Mahila Samiti, through Zoom Meeting from 5pm to 6:30pm in the presence of Chief Guest, PZP Rajendra Jaiswal. President JCI NAGPUR MEDICO JC Dr.Swati Sarda and President Maheshwari Mahila samiti Sangeeta Mantri proposed their Welcome address The session saw well explained talks including that on evolution of organ transplantation in Central India, by Dr. Sanjay Kolte, Secretary ZTCC, Myths & Facts by Dr. Rahul Saxena, Skin donation by Dr. Sameer Jahagirdar and Live Kidney Donor Transplant by Dr. Ashwinikumar Khandekar.
The session was followed by Q&A with some interesting questions by the masses which helped in clearing the doubts for organ donation. The session is available on Youtube channel JCINAGPURMEDICO.
The event concluded with a final program, “Zindagi mili hai dobaraâ€, on the eve of Organ Donation Day on 13th August. The Zoom Meeting session saw the opinions, views and experiences of people who have donated or received organs.The program as moderated by Project Director Dr.Parul Saoji.
